GOOD MORNING, WARWICK. It’s the last Monday in March, which means spring is here, the weather is gorgeous, and the pollen count is absolutely not going to let you enjoy any of it. Stock up on tissues, eye drops, and whatever allergy med gets you through - because the trees have been waiting all winter for this and they have absolutely no chill.

WHAT’S GOIN AHN’

🥤Newport Creamery has been sold - and yes, Rhode Island collectively held its breath for approximately four seconds. Relax. All remaining locations will stay open under new ownership, the menu isn't changing, and the Awful Awful is safe. The Garden City location closed back in December, bringing the count to eight locations across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts, but the institution lives on. New ownership is expected to keep the Creamery's identity intact while hopefully bringing some stability after a bumpy few years. Awful Awful Mondays will be back before you know it - and half of you will be in that line. You know who you are. Story - GoLocal.

🥪 Rhode Island lawmakers are proposing free breakfast and lunch for all public school students. No forms, no forgotten lunch money, no standing at the register while the line backs up behind you. The bill, backed by Sen. Jonathon Acosta and Rep. Enrique Sanchez, would roll out gradually from 2027–2030 and lean on federal funding to offset costs. Supporters say every kid deserves to eat; skeptics are already doing math on napkins. Rhode Island is watching Massachusetts and Maine do it and slowly raising its hand.

💥Two people are facing charges after a street racing crash in Warwick that left multiple people hospitalized over the weekend. Police say speed was a factor, with the crash happening near Bald Hill and West Natick - a combo that already feels like a bad idea before you add racing into the mix. Everyone involved is expected to be okay. Full story - WPRI.

⛽The Mobil on Warwick Avenue is Gaslighting Us. The gas station located right across the street from the Jamestown Apartment complex has been seen with the lights on, no yellow tape, and a gas price still sitting at $2.87 - which is either a glitch, a trap, or a cruel reminder of better times. If you approach the “Mobil Mart” door, a sign reads: “Closed for couple weeks. Be right back soon.”

The lot never got plowed during the blizzard last month. Someone reading this has definitely pulled in, gotten confused, and quietly left. We know.

Rumor has it: The old Bertucci's on Post Road has a "Jefferson" sign out front. Connect the dots to The Jefferson off Kilvert St. and Jefferson Blvd., and it sounds like Warwick's getting a new restaurant. Don't quote me - but also, quote me.

🐕 Warwick is tightening up the rules at City Park's dog park, and it sounds like things have gotten just chaotic enough to require a formal ordinance. Councilman William Muto's proposal - already through its first vote - would cap handlers at two dogs, require them to be 18 or older, and ban food, glass, and puppies under four months. It would also require dogs to stay in their designated size sections, which: yes, that's a rule now, because someone's chihuahua has clearly been in the large dog area causing problems and you know exactly which chihuahua it is.

Rest assured, every dog owner in Warwick will read these rules carefully, internalize them completely, and follow them to the letter. No one will show up with three dogs and a sandwich. Not once. Full Story - Warwick Beacon.

WEATHAH THIS WEEK

Not perfect, but we’re getting there!

EXTRA CURRICULARS

🧑🏼‍🏭 Electric Boat Hiring 8,000 in RI/CT. If you’re that guy or gal who’s been saying “I’m not working here much longer”… and then 7 years went by and you’re still at that same lousy job - now’s your chance to bounce. General Dynamics Electric Boat is planning to hire around 8,000 workers across RI + CT in 2026 alone, with a big chunk of those roles right here in Rhode Island. Great news for the job market - better news if you’ve been thinking about your next move. Time to put down the Cheetos and the Xbox controller. Workers needed. Full story - WPRI.

🍻 Rhode Island might let bars stay open 24 hours during the 2026 World Cup (June 11–July 19) so fans can catch games from every time zone. The catch: it's up to each city and town to allow it. So yes, your bar could become a 3 a.m. soccer hotspot - or your town could pass on the whole thing and let you watch Morocco vs. Portugal alone on your couch like a normal person. Full Story - WJAR.

🧖🏼‍♀️ The Real Housewives of Rhode Island premieres this week (April 2), and honestly, what took so long. Beachfront mansions, generational grudges, strong opinions about where to get the best clam chowder - this show was always going to happen. Bravo just needed to find the right group of women willing to have a meltdown on camera in a state where everyone knows everyone's cousin. Tune in this Thursday at 9:00PM, or don’t, and save yourself the agita.

📖 The Warwick Word of the Day

Vespertine (adj.) - of, relating to, or occurring in the evening.

Oakland Beach takes on a vespertine glow around 7:00PM - right before someone fires up a speaker too loud for the vibe.

Thanks to Mike M. for submitting today’s word of the day. You can submit one for yourself, here.

ONE LAST SIP

Trivia Answer: B) New Jersey technically wins… but we pack a lot more Dunkin’s, rotaries, and strong opinions per square mile.
