GOOD MORNING, WARWICK. It is officially football season. Week 1 kicked off with three Drake Maye interceptions that sent me into a full blown conniption. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I was just about as pissed as a Chick-fil-A worker running late for their shift, driving 25 mph on Centerville Road between the hours of 7 AM and 4 PM, knowing they can't speed and are definitely getting an earful from their manager when they arrive late, and then expected to put on the metaphorical Chick-fil-A mask and respond "my pleasure" to a line of 13-year-olds who most definitely didn't deserve that kind of treatment. I digress.
Anyways, despite the loss, and AJ Brown getting hurt and likely missing the first month of the season, we've got to be grateful for what's ahead. 860 hours of football between now and January. A free excuse to crack open a beer or rip open a bag of Doritos at 1 PM on a Sunday. And a chance to vegetate on the couch like moss on a rock. It's the little things in life, folks.

📅 On This Day: Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001, when the United States lost 2,977 men and women in the most devastating terrorist attack in our nation's history. Nearly 3,000 fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends, and neighbors never came home that morning, along with the firefighters, police officers, and first responders who ran toward the danger to save others. Rhode Island lost its own that day too, names still read aloud at ceremonies across the state each year. A quarter century later, we remember them, we remember the families who have carried that loss every day since, and we remember the way this country and this state came together in the days that followed. Never forget.

#1 ⚖️ Rhode Island’s Election Season Kicks Off
On Wednesday, schools shut down, ballots were stacked, dreams were crushed, and election results were revealed. Top of the ticket: McKee vs. Foulkes, and it was not a nail-biter. Foulkes took care of business like the Sox on the back end of a double header in Baltimore. It's the first time a sitting Rhode Island governor lost a primary since 1994. As for the GOP, Guckian narrowly held off Pelino to win the nomination, a race so close it took until Thursday morning to call it. Elsewhere, Sabina Matos took the most votes for Lieutenant Governor, Kim Ahern defeated Joe Solomon in the AG race, Jack Reed is back, and Vic Mellor took down Stephen Skoly for the GOP's 2nd Congressional District nod. I personally could never run for a political position, although I have been elected my league's fantasy football commissioner for 14 years straight. I take it seriously. Maybe too seriously…

#2 🏈 Star Player Transfers from Hendricken to La Salle
Jabari Jackson has transferred from Bishop Hendricken to rival La Salle Academy, and given these two have played each other for a state title in something like 12 of the last 15 years, this is the high school sports equivalent of a player switching from the Yankees to the Red Sox mid-dynasty. Hendricken's been sitting on three straight Division I titles, so La Salle fans are treating this like reinforcements finally showed up. If only we could’ve gotten Jabari to transfer to Pilgrim… Either way, the Hendricken-La Salle rivalry just got a lot more personal heading into this fall.
#3 🪧Rhode Islanders are Un-identifying
A Providence Journal analysis found unaffiliated voters now make up 51.5% of Rhode Island, up from 47.0% in 2024, officially outnumbering every actual party combined. Democratic registration dropped from 39.1% to 34.3% over that same span, while Republicans basically shrugged, ticking up to just 14.2%. So the real story isn't a red wave or a blue wave, it's an entire state collectively hitting "maybe" on the group chat and never following up. Handy, too, since unaffiliated voters get to walk into either primary and pick a team same day, no long-term commitment required. Rhode Island: home of the situationship voter.
#4 🍿 Apple Cinemas is Turning its Providence Location into a Bowling Alley
Apple Cinemas announced a multimillion-dollar overhaul of its Providence Place theater, adding luxury recliners in every auditorium, a SCREENX room that wraps the movie onto the side walls, and an entire immersive bowling setup with lounge seating. No completion date yet, but the company's pitch is basically "come for a movie, stay for six hours and spend way more than you planned." Worth noting Apple Cinemas already runs the 10-screen theater next to the Warwick Mall, so Warwick residents get to watch this glow-up from a very comfortable, mildly jealous distance.
#5 🐏 URI Football Kicks off this Weekend in Pawtucket
The Rams host Elon this Saturday for their first official home game at Centreville Bank Stadium, the shiny new 10,500-seat venue in Pawtucket that URI is borrowing for the whole 2026 season while Meade Stadium gets renovated. So if you're used to tailgating in Kingston, adjust accordingly, your Saturday commute just moved 45 minutes north to share a parking lot with Rhode Island FC. URI is reportedly paying $30,000 per game plus a cut of every ticket just to be a guest in someone else's house, which feels like the world's most expensive Airbnb for a football team.

This week one of our neighbors saw an Amazon package on our front steps and proceeded to walk over and check to see if it was their package mistakenly placed on our stoop - they must have thought: “There’s no way in tarnation this woman ordered another package, it must be mine.” Nope, not yours. The Where in Warwick revealed: That’s Potowomut Point! Warwick's most secluded neighborhood, technically part of the city, but you can't actually drive there without cutting through East Greenwich first, which makes it feel like its own little exclave. The name comes from a Narragansett word meaning "land of fires," and the local fire station out there is affectionately nicknamed "The Outpost" for exactly that reason. Stand at the point and you're looking out over the calm water of Greenwich Bay, with Goddard Park's shoreline just around the bend. Nice work to everyone who guessed it.
